Welcome to Lasergaming Oxford’s –  Outdoor Laser Tag Pay and Play for children who are home-schooled –  fun, friendship, and fresh air

A 2hr pay and play session specifically for home-schooled children during term time.

For children aged 8-17 years – no adults!

This is Great for You If…

  • Your child misses being around other kids and face-to-face connections. Laser tag is a fun way for them to connect with new friends, work together, and enjoy real-life social time with real people.
  • You want your child to build friendships and learn teamwork. Playing laser tag encourages kids to communicate, cooperate, and work as a team—all while having a great time doing something they love.
  • You’re looking for active, engaging, and fun activities that encourage movement. Laser tag gets kids up and moving, helping them stay active and healthy in an exciting way.  We’re outdoors in the fresh air.
  • Your child loves video games, but you’d like a healthier option. If your child enjoys games like Fortnite or other games, outdoor laser tag is the real-life, outdoor version they’ll love! It gives them the excitement of strategy, tactics and teamwork, but without the screen time, promoting a balanced and active lifestyle.
  • You want your child to have more outdoor time. Outdoor Laser tag lets kids enjoy the fresh air, builds confidence, and have fun in nature in all weathers.
  • Your child is asking to go online to make friends. If they’re feeling lonely, laser tag offers a chance for them to connect and play with other kids in person—just like they would on a school playground, but with a fun, interactive game!

This Might Not Be for You If…

  • You’re looking for childcare. Our laser tag sessions are all about outdoor fun and learning, but we’re not a childcare service. Parents or guardians need to stay on-site at all times.  We have 2 parent shelters available for parents to wait away from the gaming zone.  Parents do not participate in the gaming, players only in the zones.
  • Your child prefers quiet, solo activities. Laser tag is high-energy, team-based, and best for kids who enjoy active play with others.  It is a dynamic group game with changes and variety making it an exciting game for all.
  • You need a fully indoor activity. We are an all-weather activity, rain or shine, laser tag is primarily an outdoor game that thrives in open spaces and fresh air.  Our motto is “there is no such thing as bad weather – just bad clothing!”
  • Your child doesn’t like group play. Laser tag works best for children who are comfortable interacting with others, as it involves teamwork and communication.
  • You’re looking for a video game experience. While laser tag has the thrill of a game, it’s all about real-life action, movement, and being outdoors, away from screens.
  • You’re looking for an overly structured educational lesson. Our laser tag sessions are all about fun, social interaction, and teamwork—not a formal lesson. We focus on creating an engaging environment for kids to connect and play together.

Home School activity sessions in Oxfordshire

Why we started Pay & Play sessions for Homeschooler’s

So David and Lisa have been running lasergaming for over 20 years now.  Initially, back in 2002, we started Lasergaming because of Kaine our son who was Dyslexic, adventurous, hyperactive and could not sit still for more than a minute.  He struggled in preschool and then in primary school but we also struggled to find him activities that were suitable for him where he wasn’t being told off for not being quiet, fidgeting, making sound effect noises or sitting still.

Back then holiday camps were all art and crafts, football and boardgames.  So David who is also dyslexic had an amazing idea to start the first outdoor adventure camp for kids in the county and beyond that did outdoor, all weather activities and expanded from there.  Lasergaming was the first activity we introduced back in 2002 and has continued to be the most popular team based activity we run on our site.

Our camp quickly grew fast and attracted a lot of children that were struggling at school, had dyslexia or other neuro divergent conditions and we embraced the outdoors and the wonderful freedom it gives children who have lots of energy.  Fast forward to 2024, Kaine who is a grown adult now runs the sessions with us.

In 2021 when the world closed and we all had to home school our children, we noticed as parents are other 2 children Max and Wilf (who are also dyslexic) who had both been struggling, started to thrive and this was so dramatic, it concreted in our decision to base our children’s schooling on what was best for them and worked for them, rather than trying to fit them into a box that was a round peg in a square hole.  So we decided to homeschool full time.

Now, it has not been easy!  They are both in online school programs that still give have some structure but also allow for their individual needs.  One of the biggest challenges we face day in and day out is the lack of human interaction.  We have tried many meet ups, park sessions and other things but the children have felt the social anxiety and not wanting to join established groups.  We do the swimming, the sports sessions, but there is always minimal time for fun, friendship and socialising.   Instead we get the constant requests for them to go online and game with their friends which is so hard to balance when one minute they are saying they are lonely and are missing friends and then you’re also aware these are virtual friends and the whole safety thing that comes with that, as well as trying to keep gaming time limited.

So after much badgering from our own children and lots of encouragement from other parents we have met on our homeschooling journey, we are now excited to announce that we are going to trial the pay and play sessions for homeschooling children every week.  This session is 2 hours and is significantly discounted for homeschooling parents only.

Fun, friendship, outdoors, adventure, gaming, team work, socialising,

One of the activities we found that really brings children together, even children with social anxiety and neuro divergent conditions is lasergaming, (outdoor laser tag).  It is a team game, objective based so no awful player print outs to deal with, but it brings to life what they are playing online or on their devices and gets them off the sofa and outdoors, in the fresh air, exercising, with human interaction and making friends.

So we decided to start hosting our pay and play sessions for homeschoolers only every Thursday in term time.  We know kids love online gaming and laser gaming is gaming outdoordoors in the fresh air, so

who As homeschooling parents, we understand the challenges and obstacles faced when it comes to making sure our children are still interacting and being around other children in real life! despite following a homeschool programme.

2 of our children are homeschooled, both for different reasons and one of the most challenging areas is the children feeling lonely and missing friends.  We use well known homeschooling programs that have classes that are timetabled with group meetings and morning meet ups, but this is all online.  The only real group meet ups from those programs are once a term and usually involve a school trip which is structured.  We decided to start running these sessions based on the needs of our own children and seeing that the only way they were making friends was online which was a battle in its self to maintain boundaries on

Parents need to remain on site at all times.  this isn’t childcare or a drop off service.  We have 2 parents waiting areas, the main forest shelter which is great if you like to chat and connect with people, and the quiet zone, which is a smaller forest shelter for parents who want a bit of quiet time to read a book, think, or just to chill.  Both have picnic benches underneath to sit on.  We don’t have a cafe, so bring along a flask with your hot drink ready made.   Parents are not allowed into the gaming zones, it is players only and as this is a homeschooling session for under 18’s, we do not allow adults to play.

We have toilets but please bear in mind we are a 50-acre woodland that does not have electric or water supplies, so these are portable loos.

Parking wise, we have loads of free parking.  Once parked up you will walk up to the woodland and sign in with Kaine.
